Journeywomen Christmas Special with Kimberly Wootten
On this episode of the Journeywomen podcast I chatted with my friend, Kimberly Wootten, about all things Christmas! As wonderful as the gifts, traditions, and symbolism around Christmas can be, we’re right there with you feeling on the brink of overwhelmed and over-programmed. If you’re burned out by all that you’ve committed to, we want to encourage you with the grace of the true Christmas message: we don’t have to do it all, because Christ has done it all for us. Praise the Lord that even in the hustle of the holidays we are presented with practical opportunities to embrace the actual meaning of Christmas as we look away from ourselves and look to Jesus. We hope you feel encouraged to do that even now!
Idols of the Heart with Emily Jensen
On this episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I chatted with Emily Jensen about idols of the heart. We discuss everything from our personal struggles with idolatry to practical ways we can move forward in repentance after seeing our sin. If you know Emily, it goes without saying that we talked about resting in the grace of the gospel. She said, “It’s always important to remember with idolatry like, this isn’t something that we do on our own. This is something God did on our behalf. That causes us to just be humble and grateful and in awe of God. That’s a key thing. When we are in awe of God and when we are grateful for what he has done, it makes us want to worship Him more and it helps us deal with our idol problem.”
Loving God's Word with Gretchen Saffles
On this episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I chatted with Gretchen Saffles of Well-Watered Women about loving God’s Word. Ya'll know this is my favorite topic! I asked Gretchen to chat with me because I know she's passionate about encouraging and equipping women to get into the Word of God and find their identity and purpose in Christ. Gretchen is the founder of Well-Watered Women, an online women's ministry that reaches worldwide, has written several Bible studies, and is the creator of the "Give Me Jesus" quiet time journal for women. Through her online ministry, she longs to meet women right where they are with the hope of the gospel and ignite a desire in their hearts to know Jesus more. On any given day you can find her with a coffee cup in hand, a toddler by her side, a message stirring in her soul, and a God-sized dream on her heart.
The Gospel and Advocacy with Jenn Haskew
On this episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I chatted with Jennifer Haskew, my former mentor and real-life friend, about the gospel and advocacy. Jenn is a Texas transplant living in Los Angeles with her husband, Patrick. Together, they have had the privilege of fostering seven children. Jenn also runs a sleep consulting business, is a personal trainer, and a seminary student who hopes to use her education to continue advocating for the voiceless in their city.
The Big Story of the Bible with Caroline Cobb
On this episode of the Journeywomen podcast I had the privilege of chatting with Caroline Cobb. Caroline is a singer-songwriter and worship leader particularly interested in telling the stories of Scripture through her music. Her new album A Home + A Hunger centers around the biblical theme of kingdom hope in exile. Caroline and I talked about how viewing Scripture as one Big Story has not only developed our theology, but literally transformed us. I love her encouragement to keep looking at Scripture, no matter what season we’re in or how much time we’re able to devote to studying, because God will use Scripture to change our lives. My favorite quote was, “The Bible is a book about God. It’s not about us. What’s really cool about it is that when we go to Scripture looking for God and not just looking for a quick, Instagram-sized encouragement or whatever, then that is where we find TRUE encouragement, when we’re gazing upward at him instead of trying to get a quick answer or just feel better." I’m encouraged to continue my quest to grow in my understanding of how this Grand Narrative works it’s way throughout all of history. I hope you’ll join me!
Motherhood with Heather MacFadyen
On this episode of the Journeywomen podcast we had the privilege of chatting with Heather MacFadyen of the God Centered Mom Podcast on the topic of motherhood. We talked all things mothering, from prioritizing time in the Word to gospel-centered encouragement for tired mamas like myself. This episode is truth-filled and so rich!
The Theology of Identity with Matt Lantz
On this episode of the Journeywomen podcast I had the privilege of chatting with my friend and former mentor, Matt Lantz. Matt is a husband, father, and pastor who lives in Fort Worth, Texas with his wife and three children. He’s a graduate of TCU and Dallas Theological Seminary and has been working in full-time ministry since 2000 preparing the way for the Lord Jesus in the lives of men and women. Matt was the founding director of a discipleship program called the Forge at Pine Cove where he spent 12 years helping young men and women learn their identity and steward it well. He has recently moved on from the Forge and is now serving as the Recruitment and Development Pastor at Christ Chapel Bible Church in Fort Worth.
Living a Gospel Centered Life with Lexy Sauvé
Lexy Sauvé lives in Ogden, Utah, with her family where God’s called her to be a helper to her husband Brian, a homemaker, and momma to Ari Judah, Ira Lewis and Daphne Maeve. She also serves alongside her husband in ministry at Refuge Church in Riverdale, Utah. She enjoys spending as much time in God’s Word as she can, journaling, cooking, reading, visiting as many coffee shops as she can, and going on adventures with her kiddos. She has a degree in Creative Writing and sees her pen as a way to share what God’s been teaching her with others. As Contributing Editor for Deeply Rooted, Lexy spends a lot of time behind the scenes writing articles and excerpts for the website and magazine. She also reviews submissions, conducts interviews, and brainstorms new ideas for the magazine and website. Lexy and I connected through Deeply Rooted Magazine and our mutual friend, Dianne Jago, who was on episode 14 of the podcast. Today we’re chatting about the Gospel and how we need it every minute of every day. It’s one of my favorite conversations yet. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Bible Journaling with Jennifer Evangelista
On this episode of the Journeywomen podcast I had the privilege of chatting with Jennifer Evangelista. Jennifer is a pastor’s wife, mother, pediatrician, and the face behind Grace in Color, an online ministry where she teaches women to use their creativity to grow in their faith and truth of the Gospel. Her passion is teaching busy women that there are different ways they can study, pray and learn from God and that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about today! I hope you’ll connect with Jen via Grace in Color at the links below. She also has a free Creative Bible Study Challenge for anyone interested in getting a small taste of different ways to actually use some creative ideas in your study of the scriptures!
Decorating and the Gospel with Laura Wifler
Today on Journeywomen I had the privilege of interviewing my friend Laura Wifler of the Risen Motherhood podcast. We talk about everything from how the Gospel relates to decorating to spray painting curtain rods. Laura has been married for six years, is a mother to three precious little ones and is currently in the process of adopting two more from Eastern Europe. Laura is co-founder and co-host of Risen Motherhood, a ministry and podcast for women who are striving for gospel-centered motherhood. She likes her coffee black, going on hikes, dabbling in DIY and decorating, reading books with real pages to turn, and having impromptu dance parties in the kitchen with her children. Laura has the beautiful skill of tethering something that as seemingly trite as home decor to the beautiful truths of the gospel. She inspires me to know the foundational elements of the gospel more and to continue making those connections in everyday facets of life. If you want to connect with Laura and Emily of Risen Motherhood, be sure to do so over at Risen Motherhood at the links below.
