Applying the Gospel to Everyday Life with Emily Jensen and Laura Wifler
In this week’s episode, Hunter chats with Laura and Emily of Risen Motherhood about applying the gospel to our everyday lives. They work through what it practically looks like to apply the framework of creation, fall, redemption, and consummation to the very real problems we face, and they also chat about the upcoming sunset of Risen Motherhood and what’s next for Laura and Emily!
INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
In Gospel Mom, you give us the method behind Risen Motherhood. Could you offer our listeners a brief explanation of the framework you use when you're thinking through struggles in motherhood?
How has Creation-Fall-Redemption-Consummation (CFRC) changed the way you think through everyday struggles in your life (not just struggles related to motherhood)?
Practically—like, seriously practically—how do you employ this method?
You've never been about telling moms exactly what to do in motherhood. Instead, you encourage moms to ask good questions to help them process as they make decisions. Why is that?
Risen Motherhood is approaching its "sunset" this April. How do you feel about it?
What are some of the biggest lessons you've learned about yourself and about ministry since the launch of Risen Motherhood? How has the Lord used this season of ministry to change you?
What do you think you'll miss most?
So, what's next for you guys?
NOTES & QUOTES
Emily: “You have to go, okay, what's going to be the framework with which I'm going to use to think about these things? Because it's going to be a little bit more work than just opening up the Bible and finding answers. We want there to be this handbook or this manual so we can say, “There’s the answer, I'm going to do that.” But we actually have to walk with the Lord, we have to walk in the Spirit, we have to live in community, we have to apply the whole counsel of God to the issues at hand.”
Laura: “As you start to work through [CFRC], you start to see why the world is like it is, but then also what you can do now and what hopes you have now. And it gives you a lot of wisdom and direction and clarity for your life.”
Laura: “Start by finding one friend who also wants to learn to think like this and just say, ‘Hey, can you help me apply the gospel to this?’”
Emily: “This is part of why daily regular spiritual disciplines and Bible reading—which I know your listeners are already passionate about—are so helpful.”
Emily: “God's Word is for all people for all of time.”
Emily: “There's this foundation and this framing, and it's sort of like we all need to have sort of the same framework, these same big principles, the guardrails of God's Word and his commands. But then the way our house is gonna be finished off—the carpet and the wallpaper and the couch that you can put in there—is all going to look different.”
Emily: “I just have found it to be so beautiful that we as moms can all follow Christ, and yet the specifics about how that is going to look are going to be different.”
Emily: “That is what we want to see happen is a multiplication of the gospel changing moms, but not now in and through the podcast, but in and through thousands of moms all over the world who pick up the baton and start to do it themselves. That's the legacy we're hoping for.”
